Must-Have Travel Trailer Upgrades
Your travel trailer is already great when it comes off the lot, but there are a few things you can upgrade to make your experience even better! Beyond the interior decorating and design you’ve probably been envisioning for months, there are projects you can complete to improve the safety, lifespan, and comfort of your camper.
Update the Suspension
The towing experience is a large part of owning a travel trailer and updating the suspension can give you an improved outlook on moving it from one place to another. When you update the suspension, you’ll have a smoother time with towing, reduce overall wear on the tow vehicle, and give you more weight capacity in your travel trailer.
This project is easy to overlook, but it can make a dramatic difference on the road.
Switch to Lithium Batteries
Your travel trailer is equipped with batteries to power the lights, refrigerator, and other appliances. The standard batteries work well, but there are a few reasons it might be worthwhile to make the switch to lithium. These batteries will have a longer lifespan, fewer maintenance needs, more capacity, and are lighter in weight.
This upgrade seems simple, but the long-term savings and benefits put it toward the top of our list!
Add Stabilizers
Wheel stabilizers can make your stay at a campsite much more comfortable because they are designed to keep the travel trailer steady, even while people move around inside. You’ll truly be able to tell the difference without them!
You can select from different stabilizer types, such as jacks, chocks, and automatic stabilizers.
Re-seal Your Roofs and Slide Outs
You probably know that leaks are one of the most common maintenance concerns in regard to travel trailers. Taking the time to re-seal or double seal your roof and slide outs, if you have any, can save you time and money down the road.
All you need to do is check the original seal and determine if it needs to be replaced or if you can simply add a second coat of sealant for extra protection.
Indoor/Outdoor Digital Thermometer
Likely the simplest upgrade of everything we’ve listed here is adding an indoor/outdoor thermometer to your travel trailer. The weather outside doesn’t always reflect how the interior of your trailer will feel. For example, you can anticipate a sunny 70° day will make your trailer at least 20° warmer without running the A/C or opening the windows!
Having an easy-to-read thermometer inside your trailer can be a vital safety feature, especially if you have pets or children.
