Thanksgiving is right around the corner!  If you’re thinking about mixing up the traditions this year and spending Thanksgiving out at the camp grounds or RV park, you might be wondering how you can possibly produce an entire Thanksgiving feast in an RV.  Fear not; we have some ideas for whipping up a tasty Turkey Day dinner in your home on wheels!

Cooking the Turkey

You’ve probably already established that there’s no way you’re going to get a full-size turkey into that tiny RV oven.  However, you have some other options.  1. Buy a smaller bird.  Depending on how many people you have to feed, you could cook one small turkey or buy two small turkeys and cook them separately.  2. Why not cook your turkey on the grill?  Just beware of curious neighbors when the aroma of your dinner starts wafting through the park.

Preparing all the sides.

Though they aren’t the star of the show, sides are just as important as the turkey on Thanksgiving Day.  With limited cooking space, you’re going to want some backup.  Plug in the electric skillet and the crockpot, so you can cook multiple dishes at once.  Your grill is also a great option for some sides.  Roasted veggies are a great side and probably the healthiest thing you’ll eat on Thanksgiving.  You may also consider buying some pre-made sides.  If you live in South Texas, it’s perfectly acceptable to purchase a few dozen tamales for Thanksgiving dinner.

Don’t forget dessert.

You can’t have Thanksgiving dinner without dessert.  Your best option for dessert is probably just to make them a day or two ahead of time.  If you want to make it even easier, buy them from the grocery store.  Or better yet, commission some guests to make the desserts.

Time to feast.

If you’re hosting extended family and friends, sitting inside the RV for dinner may not be an option.  Assuming the weather is nice, set up a table outside and enjoy your Thanksgiving feast out in the fresh air.

Think outside the box, and take this holiday season to create new traditions.  That’s what RV life is all about.
