Avoiding Mosquitos in Your RV
Avoiding Mosquitos in Your RV
Mosquito season is in full force here in Texas. While summer brings with it the joys of outdoor fun, these pesky little guys have a way of ruining the best summertime plans. Whether you’re an RV dweller or just love to go camping on the weekends, you’re probably no stranger to those itchy red bumps. Here are 5 tips for avoiding mosquitos in and around your RV. Howdy Ranch RV has provided some of the basics, but we can give you some tips in person as well, so stop by today. We proudly serve Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Laredo, McAllen, and Rockport.
Shut Down Entry Points
It’s probable that most of the mosquitos inside your RV are getting in when you open the door, but it’s possible they are finding ways to infiltrate your quarters when the door is closed. Check for gaps in your screen door, window screens, and vent screens. You may need to update them but sealing them with caulk or tape would work well as a temporary solution.
Crank Up the Fans
Mosquitos aren’t too keen on wind, because it makes it difficult for them to fly—much less land on their victims. So go ahead and set up a lawn chair in front of a high-speed fan and enjoy the cool breeze on a hot, summer day—mosquito bite free. Note: This would also be an effective mosquito repellent inside your RV.
Relax
Still not sold on the lawn chair and fan idea? Mosquitos are attracted to carbon dioxide which increases in your body when your heart rate elevates. So avoid activities that increase your heart rate—like exercise, spicy food, and politics.
Slip Into Some Yoga Pants
Seeing a theme here? Mosquitos can easily penetrate loosely woven clothing made from material like cotton, but material like polyester and spandex are more tightly woven making it difficult for mosquitos to reach your skin. So go for comfort this summer and outsmart the pests.
Wear White
Some studies show that mosquitos are more attracted to dark colors, so wearing lighter colors can make you look less appealing to those winged blood suckers. Bonus: Lighter colors also absorb less heat, so you can stay cool!
Wear Bug Spray!
It’s a tried and true tactic against mosquito bites, and it can’t be beat. Stock up on the DEET and use as directed!
